As a result of our people living and breathing our values, we are genuinely excited and proud to announce that Peak Costs’ first ever “Chosen Charity”, as of 2nd November 2026, will be the wonderful Peep’s H.I.E.
Peeps is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those affected by H.I.E, and the charity was set up by two very remarkable parents, Sarah & Steve.
Here’s a quick note from Sarah to explain why they set Peeps up:
“We found ourselves in the world of H.I.E. when our daughter was born in March 2015. She stopped breathing shortly after birth; without any warning, our NICU journey began. Neither of us had heard of H.I.E. before, none of our friends or family had, and let’s be honest, it was a scary time. I googled it (going against the advice of all the nurses of course!). Luckily I found a Facebook forum for families. Without that group we would still have been wondering what on earth was going on! So, we wanted to change things a bit, reach out to families in the early days, and bring the information to them, rather than them having to look for it.”
H.I.E is a serious brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain, often occurring during (or shortly after) child birth. Peeps was set up to avoid other parents, carers and family communities faced with the challenges and unknowns associated with H.I.E, from feeling as lost or alone as Sarah and Steve felt.
Peeps now remarkably provide a network of experienced support to families who have suffered a H.I.E event; with guidance via lived experiences and equipment and activity based support for hundreds of families going through similar experiences.
